Taiwanese locals will say it is called Turtle island, but I say it is Shoe island. Turtles are great of course and they believe here that tortoises are lucky, which maybe is true, but I have a lot more experience and appreciation toward a good pair of shoes and the cow (herbivore) that made the leather for them, it is indeed an important subject for someone with 30″ (12UK) sized feet, living in Asia, where it is very lucky to find a pair of shoes that fit.
The island looks like a shoe from the shore, I’m certain you’ll agree, but does indeed look like a turtle from the sea, as I discovered, but forgot to take a photo of during a recent boat trip there, as I was enjoying the voyage too much, apparently the turtle island name was coined by fishermen, who would have seen the island a little as I did, perhaps with great delight, as they returned home to family after a hard slog at sea.
Here’s a quick video, a shoe or a turtle, what do you think? Let me know in the comments and share some interestingly named places you’ve come across, that would be great.
Thanks for seeing, Sam.
